Cross Country!

Last Friday, we had our school's cross country day! It was postponed from Monday, but luckily Friday was a reasonably good day! It was held at South Farms. The 11yr olds were first, and then it went from the 5 year olds. I helped Sophie.M film a little bit, which was cool, because the little kids are sooo cute to watch!! Our race was last, (12+) I was very nervous, but once I got into it, I was fine! We had to run up the little hill into paddock and around the creek twice, and also climb 'Killer' hill! It was heaps of fun, and I am so proud of myself because I got 2nd place, behind Erica!!!
On Monday I went to Hauraki Plain cross country, at Spence Farm. Our race was last again, this time we had to climb an even bigger hill then the one at South Farms! I ended up coming in 7th place, out of 18, I just missed in going to Thames Valley by one!! Oh well, I am still very proud of myself!

My Term 3 Goals

This term, I want to achieve my Digital Design Milestone. I can do this by using lots of digital skills in the process of making our Delicious Diner's Cooking Show for Impact.
I also want to achieve my careers pathway milestone. To do this, I have to use my initiative and start planning my 'Careers Pathway.' I need to think of a suitable career, and find a place to 'work' for 6 hours, to get job experience!


My Learning Goals...

Maths- My goal is to reach level 5 for geometry, because at the moment I am on Early Level 4.
Writing- My writing goal is to constantly make my writing exciting and use lots of language features to paint a clear image in the readers head. Reading- To try new of book genres, and not stick to my usual!

Maths

This week we focused on "Vectors" in maths, which is a way of describing how a point or shape has been moved. I am really proud of my work, because I understood all of it, and I think I did a good job!

Adrenaline Forest

Finally, it was holidays! A time to relax and spend time with my family! We went up to Mt. Maganui to stay with my Great Aunt for a night. While we were there, we climbed up to the top of the mountain, went for a swim in the hot pools, and also went to Adrenaline Forest!! Adrenaline Forest is located in between Rotorua and Tauranga. It is a high ropes course, with lots of different obstacles. Instead of having a long rope hooked onto your harness, with somebody down on the ground directing it, we had to completly rely on ourselves to be hooked in safely. We each had two "Carabinas" On our harness, that we had to hook onto the ropes around the course, as we moved along.

It started off easy, about a metre of the ground, but then it got higher- and harder! There was 6 levels in total, but we only made it to level 4, before we HAD to stop, because the challenges were really physical, and our arms were getting sore! Some of the obstacles included a flying fox, a 'rope bridge' where you had to walk across different pieces of looped rope, and a Tarzan jump. 

I had heaps of fun, it was awesome to try something new, and also have a go at something that is really scary!

Ultimate Frisbee!

This week we started playing ultimate Frisbee for PE! It was so much fun! We got into 4 groups, and instead of playing a proper game of Frisbee, we just played a miniature "warm up" game where we had to pass the Frisbee around and try and tag the opposing team members out! I had heaps of fun!

J-Rock!

JRock was on Tuesday! It was a very long and busy day,we arrived in Claudelands event centre at 9:30, and found our dressing room. During the day we got our hair and makeup done, had 3 rehearsals on the stage and had a meeting in the event centre before the actual show started. Everyone got changed into their costumes, we all looked fantastic! Our school was up first, it was so cool seeing the light bulb glowing, and our glowsticks in the dark! I think we all did REALLY well,  and  the audience liked our performance! The others schools were really cool as well, especially the high school's stage challenges! I had such an awesome day and night, and I will definatley be doing the stage challenge at college!

Disco!

The disco last night was so much fun! Dancing to awesome songs, taking random photos and eating lots of chocolate! We played the jandal game and had a dancing competition! I didn't want the disco to end, time flew past really fast! Here are a few pics from the night(:

Preparing for J-Rock!

Our J-Rock performance is next Tuesday! We have been practising hard for the last term or so, and hopefully we do well on the night! Last Friday we had a dress rehearsal, not all of us got into full make-up though. My electricity group wore our silver tinsel wigs and our electricity costumes, but we haven't yet tried our make-up on. We will tomorrow, as we are performing to the school and a few parents! I cannot wait to get our make-up done, because we will have silver faces, sparkly lips and eyeliner! Hopefully the school enjoys our performance, and I am very excited for next Tuesday!

Waka Ama

This is a traditional Waka Ama boat.

Yesterday (Monday the 17/06) we visited Huntly College to participate in a few activities. They included Maori culture- learning a Maori song and some actions, army training- which was different! We had to listen to our instructor's 'commands' and be really disciplined! Mountain biking around the lake and dirt biking through a short track, and the last activity was Waka Ama, where we learnt how to row properly, and we learnt a traditional Maori chant to sing while we were rowing! My favourite activity of the day would have to be either rowing the Waka Ama, or learning the Maori song! I learnt heaps of new things, and I thank Josh and Huntly College for showing us these new skills!

The Face of Confusion

This week, our Oreos writing group decided to enter a writing competition. The theme was 'The face of....' It had to be written in 150 words or less, in any way you liked. I decided to write a poem, about the face of confusion. It is 147 words! Here it is below...


THE FACE OF CONFUSION

My eyes are closed, I’m lying down.

I open them up, and start to frown.

There's no fuchsia flowers, or any busy bees,

There is no green grass, nor any tall trees.

The sky isn’t blue, but a smoky grey,

There's fire in the sky, i’ve lost my way.

Down come the birds in front of my eyes,

  The bees fly away, back to their hives.

My face is damp with salty tears,

but I don’t think anybody cares.

The world surrounding me, starts to crumble,

I spin around, and almost tumble.

Where am I? I ask, and what is happening?

The clouds above me, start descending.

  I close my eyes, will it go away?

but when I open them, it’s still the same day.

Was this a dream? Or perhaps an illusion?

Whatever it is, I have a face of confusion.

Impact!

Wow! We have been very busy with our IMPACT lately! Last week, Rose Douglas came in to help us make our second pizza. It was DELICIOUS and everyone (including us!) loved it! We will defiantly be using that pizza recipe for our first cooking show- which we will be making soon! We have a blog, to update our progress, check it out here.

Biography on Dylan Andrews

This is my biography on Dylan Andrews, he is my Mother's 2nd cousin's partner (Confusing right?) But he is a professional cage fighter. 

A huge round of applause breaks through the crowd, people are standing up, screaming their heads off for him.

“It’s Dylaaan the Viiiiillain!” The commentator announces. But how did Dylan ‘the Villan’ Andrews get to where he is today? It’s been a rough journey for him, and it hasn’t been easy.

Dylan Andrews, nicknamed ‘The Villain’ was born on the fifteenth of November, 1979. He was a ordinary Lower Hutt boy. He currently lives in the Gold Coast, Australia, with his family.  Dylan played many sports as a kid, such as Rugby, cricket, athletics and squash. His favourite subject in school was PE, and when he was younger, he aspired to be a ninja or a superhero! Dylan Andrews was (and still is,) a very athletic person, so it wasn’t really a surprise that he got into UFC. (Ultimate fighting championship)

But Dylan faced many obstacles throughout his life. He grew up around drugs and alcohol abuse, and education wasn’t a very high priority for him and his family. When he left school, he didn’t have any qualifications, so he had to do labour work. Money was very hard for him.

When he first got into UFC, he had to train hard to get to the top. Again, money was scarce, especially because professional UFC fighters don’t earn as much money as professional rugby or soccer players. This also meant sacrificing time away from his partner, Tracey, and two kids, Tyriece and Nevaeh, to train and compete.

In 2013, Dylan Andrews flew to America to compete in a reality TV show- The Ultimate Fighter.

The Ultimate Fighter is basically like American Idol, or the X Factor. He was chosen, from hundreds, even thousands,of people. Dylan had to compete in many fights, and stand through many eliminations. He luckily made it through to the top 10.

It was tough for Dylan though, because he was forced to have absolutely no contact with his family or friends. He wasn’t allowed to tell them if he got hurt in a fight, or even if he won!

His motivation to win a fight is to think of his family, how he must provide for them, and how he has to make them proud.

Dylan  Andrews has overcome many obstacles throughout his career, but he didn’t let them pull him to the ground. He says that he is competitive by nature, and he would never, ever quit or give up. He has made New Zealand proud.

That was the main message that really struck me on Thursday. It made me really think about my dreams and aspiration, what I really enjoy doing, and if I could have a future with it.
No matter how big your dreams are, you can always try and achieve them!

Hard work is the key to success  According to Dr Sharad Paul, you have to put in 10,000 hours of effort, in order to be the best!

That got me thinking... have I put in 10,000 hours to my passion? What is my passion? I thought lots about what I enjoy doing... Netball, writing, drama.... and making movies with my sister.
Ever since I was little, my sister and I would make movies. Little christmas videos for our cousins in america, mothers day videos for mum, random funny documentaries, that made absolutely no sense at all, but must of when we were little! I realized that maybe some day I would like to be in the movie business! Acting, that is my passion.  People may say that it's a hard dream to follow, that New Zealand is an impossible place to start an acting career, stick with something more realistic, but I am going to
Dream BIG and I will Achieve MORE.

Delicious Diner's Impact.

I am in the Delicious Diner's (Diners, not dinners) food impact group. We are making a cooking show, to teach kids how to create their own delicious dinner's. Lit Quiz 2013

Last night I attended the Literacy Quiz at St Paul's  collegiate in Hamilton. It was such a fun experience! There was about 20-30 schools in the church, we each were in teams of 4. There was 10 rounds, with 10 questions each. Some of the categories were Myths and Legends, Riddles, Mice and Rats, Authors and Magic. The man would ask a question, and we would write it down a piece of paper, we then handed in the paper, and some people would collect the points. Our team did really well, we didn't win, but we beat Turua school! Both the Ngatea teams got 49 points! I wish I could do it next year as well, because it was such an awesome experience!

J-Rock!

J-Rock is frighteningly near, and we have been busy preparing in the last 2 week! I am part of the lightbulb dance. We come on stage first. The stage will be pitch black, the only thing you will be able to see is the huge lightbulb. Then we come around it, with glow-sticks on our fingers. The lights come on and we do a small dance, then we go off. We also come on after every dance, 'transitioning' the time, because the theme is time changes, so there will be many things like television, telephone and cars.
I cannot wait to perform on the night, it will be mega fun!

Holidays

In the holidays.... No, that sounds too boring, and my holiday was defiantly not boring! It all started when my aunty Jan told us that she had booked tickets to go to "A night a rainbows end" where we could go on all the rides, and see Dane Rumble live in a concert! I was so pumped up to go, even though I had no idea who Dane Rumble was, I was still mega excited!
I raced into Rainbows end, roaring to go on all the rides! We first went on the invader, which looked scary, but it was so fun! We then went on the rollercoaster, up, down, loop-te-loop! Afterwards, we went on the bumper cars. We stopped for a quick dinner, then continued onto my favourite ride- the Pirate ship! I got major butterfies sitting at the back seat, zooming up, and speeding down! I went on the pirate ship 4 times! Soon it was time for Dane Rumble's concert. He was amazing! We got to stand right up the front by the stage, and watch him sing! The music was so loud, but we jumped up and down to the beat, pumping our arms into the air, and singing out loud!
Once the concert was over, we actually met him! Then we went on a few more rides- The log flume, which was a little scary in the dark, and the pirate ship (again!) Our last ride of the night was the invader again. We were lining up, waiting for our turn, when about 6 boys in front of us starting having a 'singing battle.' They were really good singers! My sister and I then noticed that the 6 boys in front of us were the biggest boy band in New Zealand - TITANIUM! We actually got to ride of the invader with them, then afterwards, we asked for a picture with them! (The pic is down below) It was SUCH an amazing night!

Lit Quiz 2013

Every year, there is a "Literacy Quiz" Where schools all over NZ compete.  The type of questions are things from books, for example "Who were the two tributes District 12 sent to the Hunger Games?" I am lucky enough to be in one of Ngatea Primary School's teams! The competition is up in Hamilton in May, and if you win that round, you go to nationals, if you then win nationals, you go to South Africa to compete! I will be reading all holidays, and training for the competition, I can't wait!

MDR

This term I got 6 20/20's in my MDR, which I think is really good! My average score is around 18 or 19. I am really happy with these results, but I am on book 7, so I can't move up a book!
MDR stands for Maths Daily Revision, and every day we have 20 questions to complete, then we fill in our scores in the student record sheet, here is a photo of my scores!

PE Term 1-2

This week we started PE! There was lots of fitness involved, as we rotated around the hall doing different activities like sit-ups, planks, press-ups, skipping, squats, shuttle-runs and many more! We are continuing with this next term as well. Some of the activites I enjoy, like sit-ups and skipping, others can be quite hard!
  

"Show off" Learning.

As Academic Leaders, Jesse and I have started this thing called "Show off learning" where we choose some really good pieces of writing, art, book presentations, maths or anything to do with learning! We then put it on a presentation, and play it on the projector while everyone is working! My book presentation is on it, which I am really proud of!
